Since March 1st, 2017, we’ve been practicing the latest form of treatment in shock wave therapy. This type of therapy is further development from the technique used to demolish kidney stones.
In many cases, this form of therapy can be applied with soft tissue rheumatism diseases of the musculoskeletal system.
Applications
- Tendonitis
- Calcified shoulder
- Heel spurs
- Achilles tendon problems
- Tennis arm
- Golfer’s arm
- Muscle insertion inflammation
- Patellar tendinitis (jumper’s knee)
- Trigger points
- Inflamed bursae
Treatment with a shock wave device can help avoid operations and cortisone injections in joints or tendon insertions. It has no side effects and doesn’t add strain to the body with drugs.
If shock wave therapy is applied in our practice, it is usually as part of a series of classic physiotherapeutic measures such as manual therapy, exercise therapy (targeted exercizes to optimise mobility, strength and stability/at-home exercises), posture training etc.
In general, between 4 and a maximum of 10 treatments for 10 minutes each, spread out weekly are necessary for a lasting healing effect.
Shock wave therapy is not yet covered in basic health insurance (Grundversicherung), and is performed at the regular flat treatment fee of physiotherapy. Therefore, you can apply for shock wave therapy with the usual referral forms for physiotherapy. Your general practitioner can supply them.
