Pelvic floor therapy includes therapeutic measures to improve the pelvic floor’s fitness. Pelvic floor therapy can help with incontinence, positional stability of the organs and also has a preventive effect in terms of healthy continence, posture, shape, sexuality, attitude and appearance.
The pelvic floor is made up of various layers of muscle, which serve as the floor of the torso, and as the bearing surface for a number of organs. It forms the base of the osseous pelvis. On one hand, it is responsible for holding and closing, on the other hand, it must be able to open up and release during the daily elimination of excrement and urine, as well as during childbirth.
The pelvic floor is closely tied to breathing and to the stability of the lumbar vertebrae, and has a huge influence on posture in general.
There are different kinds of incontinence
Continent is a person who can release urine and stool when, and where he or she wants. Incontinence is a involuntary loss of urine or stool.
When an involuntary loss of urine occurs during physical activity or stresses such as coughing, carrying heavy loads, laughing etc., it’s called stress incontinence.
Urge incontenence predomininantly describes a frequent, difficult-to-suppress urge to urinate. Often, afflicted persons can’t make it to the toilet in time.
A medical assessment is recommended. With a medical prescription, pelvic floor therapy will be covered by health insurance.
